I spent over 20 years working for a large engineering company contracted by the U.S. Army to complete the daunting and noble work of eliminating the U.S. stockpile of chemical weapons.  Our team was wildly successful even in the eyes of the prestigious organization, Project Management Institute (PMI).  Our organization won a globally recognized award as PMI Project of the Year in 2012.  But our organization was unhealthy. A large number of my colleagues and friends experienced significant stress from the pressures of working in such a highly visible,  safety and environmentally regulated industry. I was surrounded by people who were fearful of doing something wrong, losing their job or even worse, letting down their peers by ignoring safety protocols leading to physical harm and loss of a very lucrative job.

Eventually, that, in fact happened.  An individual not only jeopardized his life, but the life of his co-workers by ignoring safety procedures. This could have shutdown the entire project putting a lot of people out of work.

THERE HAD TO BE A BETTER WAY! For years, I was proud to have been part of this self-sacrificing work but also perplexed at how stressed and unhappy many of us were.  I just knew there had to be a better way.  

 

Fast forward approximately ten years and I got curious about hiring a professional coach.  It immediately became clear that if everyone I worked with had the opportunity to work with a coach, the possibility of work-life harmony could be real.

 

After working with a Life Coach, I was able to find a vocation more suited to who I am.  As an Agile Coach/Scrum Master for teams of people working in the IT industry, I had finally found work more closely aligned with my life and purpose.  I have a CPC, ELI-MP, PMP, PMI-ACP, PSM, plus 20+ years working in a corporate leadership role. Wow, that's a lot of letters but it essentially means that not only am I certified as a professional coach but I am governed by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) code of Ethics.
